There are 3 different variations of Texas Hold’em Poker. They all play the same with the exception of the betting limits/rules.
Limit – There is a set table maximum bet.
Pot Limit – Players can bet up to the total amount in the pot.
No Limit – Players can bet all the chips they have.
Here’s how a game of Texas Hold’em deals out:
The 2 players to the left of the dealer must make a small blind and a big blind. (A ‘blind’ is when a player must ‘post’ a bet before looking at cards. The value of the blind should be posted at your table, and the small blind is half that amount.)
After both blinds have been placed the dealer will deal 2 cards face down to each player.
Then there is a round of betting.
After the first round of betting the dealer will lay 3 cards face up in the middle of the table. These cards are ‘communal’, meaning for everyone at the table to use in their hands.
Another round of betting follows.
After the bets a fourth card is placed face up.
There is a betting round.
Then the last card is placed face up.
There is the final round of betting.
Remaining players show their hands, with the last player who bet showing first (players who cannot beat the hand shown may ‘muck’ their cards – they do not have to show). The winner takes the pot.
